Guitar Ensemble achieved GOLD WITH HOUNOURS for SYF! Their hardwork paid off finally. I am so happy for them! :-)It's a dream come true for all who were involved, including me. Not all dreams come true. Having accomplished one is a blessing to me. Initially, Guitar Ensemble was known as Guitar Club, a student initiated CCA which was meant to be a recreational one. They didn't want it to just be a recreational one. I have big dreams for performing arts, be it guitar or any other CCAs. The Year 5 students back then shared the same aspiration as me, so we started to work towards our goal ----to become an ensemble that performs various genres of music and hold concerts. Not just singing pop songs and strumming.
In 2008, the name Guitar Club was changed to Guitar Ensemble when we held our very first concert in April 26. It's a dream come true for the members. They took a daring step to propose for a public concert, when the CCA was barely a year old. In fact, only about 6 months old. School mgt was very concerned because it was a bold step. However, we decided to give it a try. Our guitarists put in a lot of effort and although the concert was not a perfectly applauding one, audience was generally pleased with it.
After the concert, our fresh batch of Year 5 started working towards SYF. We did not think about Gold with Honours at first, just wanted to participate in SYF. For the past few months, many problems arose, but they managed to tackle them bit by bit. It's never possible without the endurance and perservarance of the students. They faced a lot of difficulties but with the obstacles, they grew even stronger, not about playing skills, but their determination to overcome the odds.
With the help of many, they moved to the stage on 28th April, and showcased the 2 pieces that they have been practising for months. It's not easy for them. Many months of hard work and effort have been put in to just a 9 mins performance on stage. When the result was finally annouced at about 3.25pm, we couldn't believe our ears. Never did we expect it to COME SO TRUE! :-) There were tears and screams in school, and i could hear their joy and excitement so loud and clear over the phone. The impossible had become the possible.
Without the help of many, it will still be an impossible dream. Most of the members only started learning guitar months ago, and achieving the glory in such a short period of time is really amazing. I feel so happy for them.
Although many colleagues congratulated me, i felt that the credit goes to the students and the instructors. I am a mere teacher in charge. All i did was to dream 2 years ago, and grant requests for all the bold steps that they try to make and make some simple decisions.
I am glad that i am still in guitar ensemble to witness this. Now that it has come true, whether or not i am still in DHSGE, it's no longer important.
Cheers to all who have made history in DHSGE! We'll move on from here......
